Senior Interpreter Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include providing a full range of expert interpreting and transliterating services in a variety of sign language settings and dialects. Settings include private industry, educational, and governmental. Dialects include, but are not limited to, American Sign Language, (ASL) Pidgin Sign English, (PSE) Signed Exact English, (SEE) and Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE)
This candidate will be responsible for the administration of an interpreting team including but not limited to; ensuring the integrity of Interpreting Assignment Sheets (IAS), training of Interpreters and Junior interpreters assigned to their team, as well as providing interpreting feedback to Junior interpreters assigned to their team.
The person in this position will be responsible for using appropriate methods and techniques to convey information in both Sign Language and spoken English.
Maintaining the confidentiality of all assignment related information including information that is conveyed verbally, in sign language, and written forms.
Regularly attend relevant Sign Language and management training workshops and classes to improve skills and to provide guidance to interpreters at the beginning and intermediate levels.
Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen and meet the following requirements:
Graduate of an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) and or an Associates or Bachelors Degree in American Sign Language Interpreting
Ten (10) or more years of demonstrated experience signing and interpreting in multiple situations
of American Sign Language, (ASL) Pidgin Sign English, (PSE) Signed Exact
English, (SEE) and Conceptually Accurate Signed English
Knowledge of American Sign Language, (ASL) Pidgin Sign English, (PSE) Signed Exact English, (SEE) and Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE)
Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level 3 or National Certification
Proven ability to manage or supervise a variety of personalities and age groups
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
